ISPO 2023: Keynote speakers (3)

Today we are announcing another three of the keynote speakers for the ISPO Annual Conference 2023, which this year will be held in Amsterdam on 11/12 October. We are proud to introduce:

Mr. Neil Clark, managing partner at Human Factors (IHF). Neil is the CEO and founder of IHF where he is defining a new era of human factors consultancy. Neil is a fellow of the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors and speaks at events around the world. He developed an interest in human factors in the RAF, where he worked as a fast jet pilot from 2002 to 2011 going on to complete studies in Mechanical Engineering and Advanced Mathematics, and a Masters of Philosophy in Applied Human Factors. 12 years ago, Neil founded IHF which has grown to over 20 consultants, based in the UK, Europe and Australia. Additionally, Neil was part of the IHF team that provided a human factors pilotage workshop for the Suez pilots, post- Ever Given, and carried out an HF study of two pilot operations for Forth Pilots.

Mr. Ron Damstra, senior investigator at the Dutch Safety Board. Ron was involved in multiple roles in accidents and crises in various sectors. In addition Ron was chairman of EMAIIF, the European Marine Accident Investigators International Forum, for many years.

And last but not least Capt. Adrian Scales - director of nautical at Brookes Bell; the ‘go to’ firm for casualty investigation, forensic analysis, technical dispute resolution and expert witness work since 1903. Adrian has conducted many investigations after major incidents, including those involving pilots.


ISPO (International Standard for Maritime Pilot Organizations) is the standard of best practice for pilot organizations, aimed at improving safety and quality. It provides self-regulation and transparency to all port related stakeholders.
