Certification steps

An extremely high standard, that is transparent in operation, and continuously improving safety and quality.
Capt. Alan Feast, Harbour master Port of Tyne

The ISPO certification process basically consists of 7 steps in order to comply with the management topics of the ISPO code.

Identify management topics required by ISPO and align with existing procedures and working practices and highlight any gaps or omissions.

Once the gaps are filled, create a documented management system.

Familiarize all personnel involved with the documented procedures and requirements.

Contact a recognized classification society for certification services.

Classification Society Auditor conducts the first phase of the Initial verification, called Document Review.

The Pilot Organization must have the system in operation for a minimum of 3 months and conduct both an internal audit and a management review of the Management System.

Classification Society Auditor conducts the second phase of the Initial verification, called the Implementation Audit.

The ISPO certification is valid for five (5) years.
