The Port of Málaga is a strategic hub in southern Europe and serves as a connection point between Atlantic–Mediterranean shipping routes and the north–south axis. Its location in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, combined with the diversification of its traffic, creates opportunities for businesses in the city and the province, and positions the port as a gateway to the rest of Andalusia.

The more than 7,000 linear metres of quay infrastructure enable the handling of a wide range of traffic types: passengers in coastal shipping and cruise traffic, general cargo, containers and vehicles, liquid and dry bulk, ro-ro traffic, as well as recreational nautical and fishing activities.

Pilotage services in the Port of Málaga are provided by Corporación de Prácticos del Puerto de Málaga S.L.P., which is responsible for the safe conduct of vessels during arrival and departure. The organisation coordinates closely with the port authorities (SCC/OTM) regarding berthing operations in Area II and other designated anchorage areas.
