The Rotterdam Pilots were very honored to welcome everyone to Rotterdam. Twelve years ago, in 2005, they were the first pilot organization to receive ISPO certification. As a maritime pilot organization in Europe's largest port, high standards are therefore a given. Transparency with clients and stakeholders about our services is essential. 

The first goal of the conference was to provide a clear picture of how maritime pilot organizations can use a safety management system like ISPO.

As  pilot organizations, it is our ongoing responsibility to be transparent about our activities, to listen to stakeholders, and to find ways to continuously improve the quality of our profession. ISPO is an extremely useful tool for this. 

The second goal of the conference was to get more pilot organizations excited about using the ISPO standard and to ensure that stakeholders better understand and appreciate the importance of this form of self-regulation.
